Green fashionista, fashion consultant
Julie is a veteran and pioneer in the fashion business. Her interests are vast and cross several sectors, but she is most focused on not just the pursuit of "fashion for fashion" sake but also how to raise the consciousness of fashion relating to environmental awareness and social responsibility.
She spent 18 years at Barneys New York, a high-end luxury group of specialty stores as Senior Vice President, Fashion Director. Some of her current clients include Amazon.com, Nordstrom's not-for-profit store Treasure & Bond and writing on fashion for Takepart.com.
She feels her greatest achievements have been nurturing and developing new fashion talent as well as creating interesting projects and collaborations that speak to a new more conscious consumer. While at Barneys, she spearheaded the development of an all-organic clothing collection. She inspired many designers to develop sustainable product and was instrumental in having Barneys devote their 2007 Christmas campaign to "A Green Holiday," focusing on fashion products that are environmentally conscious.
She feels her most important task at hand is an essential need to create more awareness in how to approach the development of product. All this falls under the umbrella of trying to create a new paradigm of how the fashion business operates so as to continue igniting new talent as well as a concern for leaving a lighter footprint on the earth.
She struggles with finding enough time to surf.
