Business Account Manager

The job:

The Business Account Manager role sits within our Business Membership Department and works closely with that team, as well as cross functionally with all other departments. The primary focus is to support and build the 1% for the Planet community of business members and further the organization’s mission. This is a hands-on, frontline role in an entrepreneurial organizational culture with a small but growing staff. The Business Account Manager will act as the primary account manager and customer service agent for 1% for the Planet business members located in Western North America. One of the many responsibilities the successful candidate for this role will be tasked with is engaging our business members to facilitate regional 1% for the Planet network engagement.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent communication and customer service skills who can manage multiple moving pieces while being responsible for delivering on member satisfaction and engagement metrics. This person will need to manage a large number of diverse accounts while remaining focused on long-term objectives. The ideal Business Account Manager will be driven, adaptable, and able to navigate evolving situations. The ideal candidate is also expected to display leadership and management skills that add to our work culture and help build strong and efficient teams within our organization.

Key responsibilities: 

  • In conjunction with the Business Membership Specialist, this person will be responsible for welcoming new members to the network once they have been onboarded
  • Provide best-in-class account management and customer service, which includes coordinating regular member outreach, answering questions, assisting with certification support and communications,  providing partnership advising where needed and sharing about network opportunities
  • Facilitate regional networking of members through events, collaboration opportunities and engagement with local nonprofits
  • Support our Business Membership team goals to ensure member retention and increased brand awareness
  • Coordinate with the Certification & Accounting Coordinator to ensure successful certification and renewal communications with members annually—which may include deactivating members when needed
  • Maintain accurate database records through the Salesforce and HubSpot platforms 
  • Working with your supervisor and your team members to educate yourself on our organization, its policies, our culture as well as all the work that you will be tasked with in this role
  • Working with our People & Culture Department to participate in the recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training of new staff within your department
  • Engaging with our Leadership Team and other managers to support the development and implementation of new policies, best practices, cross-functional projects and professional development within your own team as well as company-wide 
  • Managers at 1% for the Planet may also be required to work with our People & Culture Department to prepare and execute employee evaluations, should they be assigned the duties of an immediate supervisor to another team member             
Knowledge, skills and abilities:                
  • A passion and enthusiasm for account management, customer service and mission-driven work that is creating real environmental impact
  • Undergraduate degree and 2-5 years related professional experience 
  • A minimum of two years of responsible leadership experience in management or supervisory positions
  • Strong team player with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop supportive relationships with members, whether remotely or in-person
  • Experience and comfort working remotely with a high degree of autonomy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Experience in account management (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Google Workplace
  • Experience in Salesforce and HubSpot (preferred
  • French-English, Japanese-English or Spanish-English bilingualism considered an asset
  • Ability to travel as needed, ~5-10% of the calendar year

Location: 1% for the Planet is headquartered in beautiful Burlington, Vermont. Please note that for this position we are accepting both local and remote applicants. This role may be conducted remotely from anywhere within the United States.

Please note: Currently, no 1% for the Planet staff members are required to work in our physical office space, even Vermont-based employees. Our team is currently either working from home or working a closely monitored hybrid schedule between their home and our headquarters. Any work done at our headquarters by 1% for the Planet staff members that choose to utilize the space is closely monitored by our team to ensure safety protocols for COVID-19 are implemented, regularly updated and upheld. We will safely arrange for any Vermont-based hire to be able to use our office space, should they request it. We will also work with any candidates to discuss a remote work schedule that feels most safe to them.
