Business Membership Specialist

The job:                                               

The Business Membership Specialist is responsible for responding to inbound inquiries from businesses interested in joining 1% for the Planet, and ultimately converting those interested businesses into 1% for the Planet business members. This role is critical to the continued growth and success of the 1% for the Planet network, and will require excellent customer service and sales skills. Daily responsibilities include initial email responses, introductory phone conversations, email follow-up conversations, and the onboarding of new business members. Importantly, this role will leverage automation and efficiencies in our HubSpot CRM. 

The ideal candidate is passionate about the value and impact of the 1% for the Planet network, and can effectively communicate about our membership model to businesses of all types and sizes. The Business Membership Specialist needs to be able to articulate our model clearly and concisely, while also bringing a sales-oriented mindset to those conversations. In addition to strong written and verbal communication skills, this position requires attention to detail and a commitment to good data management. A firm understanding of Salesforce and HubSpot CRMs is desirable. Candidates without experience with these platforms should highlight related experience and skills, and indicate a strong willingness to develop expertise in these data management software.

This role will sit in our newly-formed Business Systems & Innovation team, and will work closely with our Business Membership team.                                                       

 Key responsibilities: 

  • Provide best-in-class sales and customer service, specifically for businesses that are interested in joining 1% for the Planet as business members
  • Explain the membership model, benefits and requirements via email and phone, to businesses of all types, sizes and geographic locations
  • Onboard and welcome new business members, and ensure a smooth handoff to the assigned account manager for that new member
  • Working with your supervisor and your team members to educate yourself on our organization, its policies, our culture as well as all the work that you will be tasked with in this role
  • Implement existing HubSpot and Salesforce processes, and work with Business Systems & Innovation team to help evolve those processes to maximize the available efficiencies and automation within HubSpot
  • Maintain accurate database records (Salesforce and HubSpot)
Knowledge, skills and abilities:               
  • A passion for sustainable business practice and creating environmental impact; demonstrated commitment to mission-driven work
  • 1-4 years of related professional experience
  • Strong team player mentality, but with ability to execute daily tasks independently and efficiently
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills, experience in sales is a plus
  • Ability to connect with businesses owners or representatives, in order to effectively answers questions and provide information in a way that is most useful to the prospective member 
  • Demonstrated time management skills, and an attention to detail particularly with respect to data integrity
  • Established proficiency with basic office software such as Microsoft Office; Google Drive; General CRM software experience preferred
  • A willingness to learn, an appreciation of automation and the value of sales tools like Hubspot

Location: 1% for the Planet is headquartered in beautiful Burlington, Vermont. Please note that for this position we are accepting both local and remote applicants. This role may be conducted remotely from anywhere within the United States.

Please note: Currently, no 1% for the Planet staff members are required to work in our physical office space, even Vermont-based employees. Our team is currently either working from home or working a closely monitored hybrid schedule between their home and our headquarters. Any work done at our headquarters by 1% for the Planet staff members that choose to utilize the space is closely monitored by our team to ensure safety protocols for COVID-19 are implemented, regularly updated and upheld. We will safely arrange for any Vermont-based hire to be able to use our office space, should they request it. We will also work with any candidates to discuss a remote work schedule that feels most safe to them.
