Howard I. Fischer is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Basso Capital Management, L.P. a hedge fund management company with a focus on Special Purpose Acquisition Corporations . Mr. Fischer also serves as Chairman of the firm’s investment committee where he is responsible for strategy allocation and risk management. Mr. Fischer is the portfolio manager for the firm's dedicated SPAC fund.
Mr. Fischer is also the co-founder and Chief Evangelist of Gratitude Railroad. Gratitude Railroad is an educational, community building, and impact investment organization focused on catalyzing positive social and environmental change under the belief that non-concessionary capitalism, practiced in a conscious manner, is the most powerful and viable force to address these issues.
Previously, Mr. Fischer was the senior trader and co-head of the institutional convertible trading desk at Smith Barney with primary responsibilities in market making, new-issue pricing and proprietary trading. Before Smith Barney, Mr. Fischer was a convertible trader at Drexel Burnham and at Cohen Feit & Company.
Prior to his trading career, Mr. Fischer was a Certified Public Accountant in both public and private practice. Mr. Fischer serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and The Carbon Underground. He holds a B.S.E. in Accounting and Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and was a fellow and a senior fellow in the Advanced Leadership Initiative at Harvard University.
