A look at the enterprise impact partners providing new pathways for action in the 1% for the Planet network

The landscape of environmental solutions has changed dramatically since 1% for the Planet’s founding in 2002. To remain the benchmark of credible corporate responsibility and design our model for the next quarter-century of impact, we have updated our model to reflect the diverse array of entities and operational models that are delivering vital, on-the-ground environmental solutions today.

As of September 2026, we have welcomed vetted market-based solutions into our network, giving members the opportunity to allocate a portion of their 1% commitment to them. These enterprise impact partners represent a new pathway for driving environmental change. Their inclusion strengthens our model by making 1% for the Planet even more globally inclusive and impact-focused.

What is an enterprise impact partner?

Enterprise impact partners are durably mission-locked public benefit companies offering critical, market-based environmental solutions like plastic pollution cleanup, carbon sequestration or land conservation. They are vetted according to the same high standards as our nonprofit impact partners.

What should members know about enterprise impact partners?

Including market-based solutions in our network provides members with access to a broader range of vital environmental solutions, and allows us to collectively unlock more impact for the planet. This new pathway also allows for greater alignment with a business’s comprehensive corporate responsibility strategy.

To maintain 1% for the Planet’s high standards, specific parameters apply:

  • All contributions to enterprise impact partners must be strictly monetary.
  • Contributions are capped at a maximum of 50% of a member’s total 1% commitment, to ensure nonprofits remain at the center of our movement’s work.
  • Eligible market-based solutions must operate entirely beyond the value chain—meaning the provided services must fall outside of the member company's operations, equity ownership or compliance-driven purchases. In other words, the service is for public good, not the company’s.
  • These organizations must be approved according to 1% for the Planet’s rigorous Certification & Vetting Standard, same as nonprofit impact partners.
