Hannah Cox is running 100 marathons in 100 days to raise £1M for the planet. Here’s everything 1% for the Planet Members need to know about how to donate.
Meet Hannah Cox, a first-time ultrarunner, founder of the Better Business Network and a longtime 1% for the Planet Member. Right now, she's making history as the first person to run 100 marathons in 100 days along India's Old Inland Customs Line—a forgotten 4,030 km, colonial-era hedge that once divided the country.
This endeavor is called Project Salt Run, and it’s about so much more than running. It's about transforming a symbol of extraction and control into a story about progress, connection and what's possible when businesses and individuals work together for positive change.
“The world is full of shiny headlines and big celebrity moments doing great things,” Hannah wrote in a recent LinkedIn post. “But it’s also full of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, without fanfare, without millions watching. … I run to bring people together. To prove that business leaders, founders, teams [and] everyday humans can actually do something. To show we’re not powerless.”
By running 100 marathons in 100 days, Hannah aims to raise £1 million for four charity partners, including 1% for the Planet and three 1% for the Planet Environmental Partners: Frank Water, Big Change and ClientEarth.
Here’s everything our members need to know about supporting Hannah’s audacious and historic journey.
1. Donating to Project Salt Run counts toward your 1% commitment
Every donation you make through Project Salt Run counts toward your 1% for the Planet certification.
When you donate to Project Salt Run via Givestar, a portion goes to 1% for the Planet—and this is automatically recorded in your member portal. The rest is split between Frank Water, Big Change and ClientEarth—donations that you can easily certify using your Givestar receipt.
2. How to certify your donations to Project Salt Run
Certifying your donations to Project Salt Run is easy. Just follow these steps:
- Use the same name and email associated with your 1% for the Planet Member Portal.
- As mentioned above, the portion of your donation that goes to 1% for the Planet will be automatically updated in your member portal.
- To record your donations to Frank Water, Big Change and ClientEarth, simply log into your member portal, go to the "Donations" tab, and enter three separate donations using the amounts shown on your Givestar receipt.
- Questions? Reach out to membership@onepercentfortheplanet.org or your Account Manager.
3. Your donation supports four organizations committed to planetary health

Follow the Journey
Hannah has traversed villages, farmlands and highways as she pushes forward on her marathon of marathons. She's experienced overwhelming kindness from strangers offering water and fruit, chance encounters (including bumping into Richard Branson at the Taj Mahal), and the unforgettable beauty of running through a country that's shown her extraordinary generosity.
Hannah and her team are sharing daily updates on Instagram, LinkedIn and the PSR podcast. Join the PSR community WhatsApp to connect with others who are following along.
Each donation brings Project Salt Run closer to £1 million and demonstrates the collective power of purpose-led businesses working together for change. Because, as Hannah reminded us in a recent update, "If there's anything I've learned out here, step by step, kilometer by kilometer, it's that anything is possible. We just don't do it alone."
Not a 1% for the Planet Member? Businesses can join here, and everyone else is encouraged to learn more about Project Salt Run and consider donating, too.
