How Klean Kanteen Turned its Environmental Commitment into a Successful Earth Month Campaign

The Earth Month buzz was loud this year—but to our network, it’s just another day, week and month like any other. Because, at 1% for the Planet, Earth Day is a reminder, not a plan. Our global network acts every single day to protect the planet and future generations. Though the hype is nothing new for us, April still offers a chance for our members to amplify their impact, get creative with Earth Month campaigns and inspire businesses to make a plan for the planet.
Klean Kanteen, a 1% for the Planet Member since 2008, launched its Earth Month campaign through two limited-edition Earth Day bottles. For every bottle sold online in the United States, Klean Kanteen donated $5 to The Conservation Alliance as part of its environmental commitment. The campaign sold out twice, totaling 232 bottles sold over the course of the month. The company’s impact stretched even further on April 22 when it donated 22% of all business sales to the organization in celebration of Earth Day—in the end, giving a total of $8,500 to The Conservation Alliance and amplifying their rallying cry that people are "Made To Do More."
We sat down with Caroleigh Pierce of Klean Kanteen, who oversees partnerships and community engagement, to discuss how the brand turned its plan for the planet into a successful Earth Month campaign.
What was the creative process behind your Earth Month campaign with The Conservation Alliance?
This is our third year creating Earth Month-specific graphics, but this time around, we wanted to go bigger—pairing eye-catching design with a global giveback focused on biodiversity and reforestation.
In the U.S., The Conservation Alliance was a natural fit. As one of our long-standing 1% for the Planet environmental partners, we’ve always admired the work they do. We reached out to see if they’d be up for a collaboration, and they jumped in with both feet—helping us bring the story to life with beautiful visual assets and a shared sense of purpose.
We’re excited to introduce The Conservation Alliance to the Klean Kanteen community and show how we’re both “Made to Do More.”
Why is having a plan for our planet important to Klean Kanteen?
At Klean Kanteen, Earth Month isn’t a one-and-done. It’s a moment to spotlight the work we’ve been committed to for the last 20 years.
Our nonprofit partners have always been part of our plan for the planet. They’re out there protecting clean water, restoring wild places and fighting for a future where people and the planet can thrive together. Having clean water to drink and open spaces to explore are necessary components for our business to thrive.
As a proud 1% for the Planet Member since 2008, giving back isn’t a side project—it’s core to who we are. We believe in supporting partners and programs that help build a healthier future for all of us.
How does Earth Month offer a chance for businesses to go beyond words and showcase their commitment to the planet?
Earth Month is more than just a calendar moment—it’s a global spotlight. It gives businesses the chance to show, not just tell, how they're walking the talk year-round.
For us, it’s a time to connect our products directly to our purpose. By tying product sales to our giving strategy, we’re not only raising critical funds—we’re also shining a light on the global environmental partners doing the real, boots-on-the-ground work. They're restoring habitats, protecting clean water and fighting for a healthier future. We're proud to support that work, amplify their impact and bring our community into the action.
Because when it comes to protecting the planet, showing up matters—and we’re all “Made to Do More.”
