24 hours. 24 running events.

100% for the Planet.

As a new 1% for the Planet business member, Midnight Runners elected to donate all money raised from their annual global Midnight2Midnight run directly to 1% for the Planet. On August 17, over 500 runners in 10 key cities around the world took to the streets to run in this 24-hour event and raise money for environmental organizations. Our membership manager Ashley traveled from our Burlington, Vermont headquarters to London to capture the excitement.

The Midnight Runners crew calls London their home base, however this global running community hosts runs in 10 key cities around the world every week. At this year’s Midnight2Midnight event, over 250 runners participated in London (myself included!).

London’s Midnight2Midnight run was located at Here East, which is situated in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Typically a deserted area post-olympics, the park was transformed into a lively party with some very enthusiastic people eager to learn more about 1% for the Planet and how they can give back.

Complete with all the activities to keep the energy alive for the full 24 hour event, Here East was fitted with comfy bean bags from Reebok, a full espresso bar, volleyball nets, ping pong tables, KIND snacks, and most notable, a bake sale featuring a 1% for the Planet cake!

With runs heading out of the start line every hour, on the hour, I joined fellow business member MOJU for a 5K through the Regent Canals and Victoria Park. MOJU makes some of the most delicious cold-pressed juices and shots that were available for the runners all day long. I was psyched to finally get to try some of their juices as well as meet members from their team outside of our regular email correspondence. It’s always a treat to meet business members from our global network in person!

One of the undeniable common threads between Midnight Runners and 1% for the Planet was the immense dedication to community shared by both parties. As a group of individuals, Midnight Runners is devoted to raising up their peers and going the extra mile (literally) in support of each others progress. Their positive attitude extends beyond their London roots and into key cities around the world including Barcelona, Sydney, Los Angeles, and several more. You can see their shared excitement via their weekly group runs featured on their social channels

Much like 1% for the Planet, this global community is tied together by their shared interests and beliefs. 1% for the Planet and Midnight Runners are great examples that represent how we are only better together, and this couldn’t have been more apparent after spending a full 24 hours with their crew.

As the last run of the night returned at midnight, we all toasted to the $19K raised by all teams across the globe for 1% for the Planet. A large check and a champagne shower later, the Midnight Runners crew headed down to a retro arcade bar for post run pizza and beers to wrap up the night. It’s great to see such success come out of a member collaboration within the 1% for the Planet network. Midnight Runners and MOJU surely created a memorable 24 hours of community, running and all in the name of the planet!

$19,000 for the Planet

Thank you, Midnight Runners!
