How it works

The 1% for the Planet model is convenient for businesses, credible for consumers and impactful for people and the planet.
Sign up, pay your annual dues, and access all your member benefits right away.
Donate 1% of your annual sales directly to organizations in our environmental partners network.
Submit proof of annual revenue and donation receipts to our team each year to complete your certification.
Connect with the 1% for the Planet network, share your giving story, and leverage the power of our logo to communicate your commitment.

There are three levels of 1% for the Planet membership

Full Company Membership

Full Company

For full company members, we certify giving for 1% of your company’s total annual revenue. Because you give 1% of your total annual  revenue to environmental causes, you can use our 1% for the Planet logo across every channel and on all of your products. You can become a full-company member no matter how much your company does in annual sales.

Examples: Patagonia, 4 Pines Brewing, Klean Kanteen, Cotopaxi

Brand Level Membership

Brand Level

Brand level membership is for brands or companies that are owned by a larger entity. They commit to giving 1% of total annual revenue for all sales made through the brand and must provide proof of revenue for the sales of the brand. While the brand has full access to use the 1% for the Planet logo to use on products and across all channels, the parent company does not.  Brand level membership may also apply to multinational companies who choose to commit to giving 1% of total annual revenue for all sales made in specific countries.

Product Line Membership

Product Line

Product line members commit to giving 1% of revenue from the  sales of a specific product or service.

  • Product line members must choose a product line that has at least $2.5 million USD in annual sales 
  • Product line members may use the 1% for the Planet logo only on products that are registered under their membership 
  • You must be able to submit proof of revenue for only the product(s) registered under your product line membership at the time your certification is due

Flexible Giving Options

We believe in the power of relationships between businesses and Environmental Partners.

Each year, at least half of your giving must be monetary and up to one half of your giving can be in the form of these non-monetary options: 

  • In-kind donations
  • Employee volunteer time 
  • 1% for the Planet Advertising donations
